HOLLYWOOD stars Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet are among a host of big names to have acted in a Brentford period home, which turned film set once again last week.

The house in the historic 18th Century square, The Butts, just off Brentford High Street, provided a ready-made setting for ITV war drama, Foyle's War, on Friday, with vintage cars and a 1940s ambulance all on the scene.

Foyle's War was created by writer Anthony Horowitz and blends real war stories with tales of treachery and suspense. Its star, Michael Kitchen, was filmed entering two homes in The Butts, while The Weir pub also took on a nostalgic feel.

The main home being used played host to Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet in the 2004 hit Finding Neverland, and Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor filmed Miss Potter there in 2006.

Owner, Sarah Poland, said: "We've been privileged to live in this house and each film has given us happy memories. We've met some brilliant actors and they've all added something to the fabric of our home over the years.

"On Friday it seemed that within a couple of hours we were back in the 1940s, there were men in trilbys and the rattling of vintage cars."

Full of history and charm, The Butts' square used to host parliamentary elections, as well as being a market place.

Its red brick houses lend an ideal backdrop to period films, and it has been much in demand for film makers. The only preparation needed by the crew was to cover up the yellow lines on the side of the road.

Foyle's War location manager, Joe Manderson, said: "The Butts is so good because it hardly needs any dressing at all. It's also a cul-de-sac, which makes it easy for us to cordon it off and stop people walking through the shot."

The series is due to be screened either later this year or early 2010.
