A GOALKEEPER who’s also run a business endorsed by hit TV-show Dragons Den and shown talent as an author has discovered a further sideline.

Richard Lee, who despite injury forcing him onto the sidelines remains custodian of the Number 1 jersey at Brentford FC, was able to act perfectly naturally when he filmed the music video for a song released on October 15 called New State of Mind.

In it the former Watford FC shot-stopper, who has been with the Bees since May 2010, is seen warming up for a match and wandering around the club’s training ground.

There was little trouble getting a fanous footballer, who has faced off against Manchester United during his career, to take part - chiefly because the singer is Richard’s younger brother Michael.

The solo performer, who lives in Princes Risborough in Buckinghamshire, already has a successful album called Face Forward released in June 2009 under his belt.

The new single, taken from the forthcoming sequel, was inspired by the elder Lee’s book published at the start of the year which he titled Graduation: Life Lessons of a Professional Footballer.

The book details how Richard went from almost quitting the sport in 2010 to winning five Player of the Year Awards in the space of just 12 months.

Michael was even able to call on his big bro’s contacts within the world of sport to find a producer for the video; 20eleventhal Productions run by Sky Sports News presenter Adam Leventhal.

Michael said: “When writing the song, I drew influence from Richard’s story as well as using similar personal challenges of my own where I fell in a rut without direction.

“This song serves as a reminder that you can only achieve great things with a great state of mind.”

The single New State of Mind sees Michael on vocals and guitar, Chris Pethers on bass and the family affair continues on drums in the shape of Duncan Lee – Richard and Michael’s younger brother.

Speaking about the use of his book for a song, a delighted Richard said: “It has far exceeded anything I could have anticipated (and) I was adamant that we needed to create a video to compliment it.
“I’ve always been a big fan of my brother’s work; his passion is music and to have an involvement in this is really exciting.

“I’ve sent several tweets about it and the feedback has been phenomenal. I personally love the song and have listened to it countless times on my Ipod.”

Richard, who recently recovered from a knee injury and is currently being kept out of the first team by Simon Moore, suffered a bad start to his Brentford career.

He turned to a friend back at Watford who helped him get into hypnotherapy and Neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) to focus his mind and within a year his fortunes had turned round dramatically.

Back in 2006 he and his business partner Daren Duraidi appeared on Dragons’ Den to seek funding for their company Dr Cap which sold baseball caps.

They so impressed the famously hard-headed entreprenuer Duncan Bannatyne that he put up £150,000 for a 50 per cent stake in the business.

Reffering to how the video has gone down with teammates, Richard said: “The lads have given me a bit of stick but they know what I’m like.

“It used to be big news whenever I did something considered different but the culmination of appearing on Dragons Den, writing a book, becoming a master practitioner of NLP and getting hypnotised regularly, makes this seem somewhat mild in comparison.”
