A popular sports centre have been given a prestigious sporting award and two of its staff members were also given awards.

The company running Vale Farm Sports Centre, SLM, operating as Everyone Active in conjunction with Brent Council, has won a prestigious sporting award for the fourth time running.

Two long-serving members of staff from Vale Farm Sports Centre in Watford Road, Wembley were also winners.

SLM won Facility Operator of Year Award 2014/15 at the ASA (Amateur Swimming Association) Awards last week.

SLM have invested over £1 million improving the centre over the 11 months they have had the contract and it has been transformed within that time.

There is a new and larger gym with new equipment, a new aerobics studio, a new spin cycle studio, new changing rooms and toilets.

Chrissie Devarajan, 54, from Harrow Weald, who has worked at Vale Farm for over 10 years, won Lifesaver of the year.

Pawel Novak, 35, from Uxbridge, who has worked at Vale Farm for six years, was awarded Bronze medal for Top Teacher of the Year.

Councillor James Denselow, lead member for stronger communities at Brent Council said: "The SLM contract is a great example of a contract that is a win:win situation; the council makes savings through the operation of the contract and residents benefit from better facilities. Sports centres like Vale Farm are the heart of the community and are a great place for people to exercise and socialise.

"It's great to see that SLM are investing in their staff and that their staff are winning such prestigious awards".

The Swimtastic Awards are organised by the ASA, the national governing body for swimming, and celebrate the achievements of the unsung heroes of aquatics.

The holiday camp at Vale Farm Sports Centre was featured in a popular website as one of the top 20 'Best Kids' Activity Camps' for this October half-term.
