Police have marked National Tackling Drugs Week by raiding several homes and stepping up information campaigns.

Officers across Brent were involved in the fight against illegal drugs, executing eight warrants and discovering cannabis, cash and CS gas, arresting three men.

Safer Neighbourhoods teams, which cover every ward in the borough, also carried out 'street briefings' with residents concerned about illegal drug use in their areas and provided general crime-prevention advice during the week of activity between May 19 and 26.

Detective Superintendent Owen White, Brent police drugs and firearms team, said: "Targeting drug-related activity is part of everyday policing and Brent police is committed to acting upon information provided to us by our local communities.

"We will continue to crackdown on those dealing in unlawful substances."

Sergeant Liam Tierney led Tokyngton Safer Neighbourhoods team in speaking to the Women's Fellowship group of the Park Lane Methodist Church, in Park Lane, about drug misuse.

The team also visited Oakington Manor Primary School to give a talk on drugs to year five pupils.

In Willesden, officers held a street briefing in Shiel Court, Willesden Lane, to talk with people about their drug-related crime concerns.

And in Harlesden, PCs visited John Keble Junior School, in Crownhill Road, to talk about the dangers of drugs.

Deepa Naik from drug and alcohol treatment charity AddAction spoke about the impact of legal drugs such as cigarettes on health and police officers answered legal questions.

PCSO Jos James, who took part in the talk, said: "I wanted to make the children aware of the dangers of drugs. The children were very interested and questions were shouted across the room for more information. The children also wanted to know what would happen if someone was caught with drugs, supplying and where drugs come from."
