BRENT Council has unveiled its new 'budget' corporate identity with a colourful, modern logo.

The authority has revealed the new look including a logo, which will replace the old crest used since 1965 when the council was first established.

In-house designers were used to keep the cost of the overhaul down, meaning the bill came to just s2,000. Street signs will not be changed.

The council's new "branding" will be brought into use over the next 12 months, and is expected to be fully adopted by the time the council moves to the new Civic Centre in Wembley next year.

A council spokesman said: "It's the perfect time for the council to update its identity and branding as the move to the new building and resultant change of address mean we have to undertake a re-design of stationery anyway."

The council is also re-designing its website to make it "easier to use".

Brent's official identity has remained largely unchanged since 1965. The council has stated that since that time, the borough has "changed beyond recognition".

According to the local authority, the new design is "more representative of Brent as it is today".

The old crest will still remain an important part of the borough's heritage, and will continue to be used for civic occasions by the mayor's office.

The council spokesman said: "The first use of the brand will be on letterheads, forms and report templates. These are produced electronically rather than printed so no costs will be incurred through the roll-out. Any existing printed documents will be used up before being replaced with the new identity."

Toni McConville, director of customer and community engagement, said: "Our new civic building and new identity are symbols for everything the council now stands for - a modern, innovative and forward-thinking organisation that celebrates the rich diversity of its community.

"The key changes the council faces have prompted us to look at all aspects of our operations, including how we can be better recognised. The new brand is more distinctive, more reflective of Brent and makes us stand out."
