A breakthrough Breast Cancer campaigner has lobbied a borough MP to ensure breast cancer screening in Hillingdon offers a 21st century service.

Lorraine Zachary, of Windmill Hill, Ruislip, highlighted the importance of ensuring screening services join the digital age, when she met Ruislip-Northwood MP,

Nick Hurd, at the annual lobbying event, The Westminster Fly-In.

Ms Zachary drew the attention of Mr Hurd to the Government's commitment that all breast cancer screening units in England should have at least one digital mammography set by 2010.

She said: "There's no doubt that breast screening saves lives and as a Breakthrough campaigner I want to make sure there are no barriers to prevent new breast screening technology becoming available, so all women in Hillingdon can benefit from the latest technology and an even better screening service.

"That's why I am asking my MP to write to the chief executive of Hillingdon PCT to highlight the importance of digital mammography and to make sure they are on course to meet the Government's commitment.

"If there are any challenges, I want to know there are plans in place to overcome them so that this new technology is available in all breast screening units in Hillingdon by 2010."
