A PUPIL was stabbed on school grounds after an altercation yesterday afternoon.

Cardinal Wiseman school in Greenford is closed today after the incident, which happened just after 4pm, 45 minutes after classes finished.

It is thought a number of pupils were involved in a confrontation with youths from elsewhere when the stabbing occurred at the school entrance.

The year 11 teenager is in hospital where he remains stable. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A statement from the school said: "Staff were alerted and responded swiftly. Police and emergency teams arrived quickly.

"School will open again as usual on Monday.

"We will be offering a full range of pastoral support for those students affected by this."

One boy was arrested in connection with the stabbing.

An arts festival and a number of school trips have been cancelled following the incident.
