FORMER members of a book discussion group have presented Surbiton Library with a plaque and a cheque for £1,000 at their last ever meeting.

The Subition Library Circle ran from 1983 to 2007, meeting at the library once a month to discuss books and culture, and members regularly went on trips together.

Since it stopped meeting in 2007, due to falling membership, the group have held £1,000 in funds and decided now was the time to hand it over to the library. They also paid for a plaque dedicated to the group's founders Cecily Scarlett, a former senior librarian and group chairman, and treasurer Marjorie Renshaw.

They held a final meeting on May 30 and drank a toast as the plaque was unveiled.
