The body of a man from Hounslow has been found in the River Thames following an extensive search .

At around 2pm on Sunday (May 7), Surrey Search & Rescue was called about the safety of the man who was in the water.

Surrey Search & Rescue had said the man was seen last between Runnymede Pleasure Grounds and the Bell Weir lock.

Following the call, emergency services launched a large-scale operation to find him and that section of the river was closed at the time.

The riverbank footpath was also closed for the safety of divers involved in the search for a body.

The man's body was recovered just before 7pm by Surrey Search & Rescue.

His next of kin have been informed.
