A body has been found in the search for missing diabetic Bronwyn Davies, who disappeared without her insulin on New Year’s Day.

Police received a call yesterday (Sunday, January 18) to say a body had been found at Lake Farm Country Park, in Hayes.

A section of path in the park has been cordoned off, together with part of the canal towpath, near to The Woolpack club in Dawley Road.

The body has yet to be formally identified, but officers believe it to be that of the 60-year-old mother-of-one.

They say they are currently treating the death as unexplained. A post-mortem will be held in due course.

Miss Davies’ family today paid tribute to their loved one, describing her as a ‘free spirit’ and a ‘child of the Earth’.

Her nephew, Simon Webb, 36, said: “She didn’t really worry about rules or routine or anything like that. She was a free spirit and everyone just always enjoyed her company.

“She was always helping other people. Anyone could get on with her.”

He added: “We are just devastated that she’s gone but we have a degree of closure now”.

Miss Davies was reported missing from her West Drayton home on January 1, sparking a police search.

Fears were particularly high as the Type 1 diabetic had left home without either her insulin or her inhaler, both of which she relied upon, and was believed to be without money or a phone.

She had also left half a cup of coffee in the microwave, which police said suggested she had intended to return.

The retired physiotherapist was last seen at around 11am that day, sitting on wooden steps leading up to the fields and walkways of Stockley Park.

CCTV cameras had also filmed her walking along the Grand Union Canal towpath in the direction of Hayes, near to the premises of pipe manufacturer John Guest, in Horton Road, West Drayton, at 10.28am the same morning.

Officers searched the canal for days using boats, divers and sniffer dogs, while others on horseback scoured the banks and a police helicopter circled overhead.
