A NORTHWOOD hospital has been shortlisted for a national health care award for implementing strict guidelines to help identify and treat patients at risk of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism (VTE).

BMI Bishops Wood Hospital, in Rickmansworth Road, has been recognised in the risk management category of the Independent Healthcare Awards for its work, which is part of a group-wide initiative from the private hospital’s parent company, BMI Healthcare, whose thrombosis board has been shortlisted in the risk management category for its VTE Exemplar Status.

The board produced a corporate policy and new risk assessment tools, patient information leaflets, prevention protocols and training packages to ensure those at risk are quickly identified.

The winner of the risk management category will be announced at the Independent Healthcare Awards gala dinner on Thursday, October 8, 2013.
