A FIRE at a political office is thought to be part of a spate by an arsonist, a Conservative councillor has said.

The blaze happened overnight at the Harrow East Conservative Association in Headstone Lane, which also house the constituency offices of Bob Blackman, Tory MP for Harrow East, and was discovered at 8.40am this morning.

Councillor Marilyn Ashton, chairwoman of the association, said: "Somebody shoved something through the door. There's been a lot of it, according to the police and firefighters.

"The did use the word 'spate' and they said it happened recently. They said there had been an arsonist in the area and they're going to have to do an investigation."

Firefighters attended another fire with the same characteristics at a second premises in Headstone Lane - the London Fire Brigade will not disclose which - at 6pm on Tuesday.

Mrs Ashton said the damage to the conservative association office was minor and was confined to the area around the letter mat. The building was closed at the time and it's day-to-day running was not disrupted, she added.

"We have no idea why this happened or who did it," the Stanmore ward councillor said.

"It could be because of who were are but we're not sure. It could just be because we're located at the end of the parade."
