PLUMES of smoke rose into the air above Shepherd's Bush after scrap metal at a recycling centre in Scrubs Lane caught fire.

Six fire engines and about 30 firefighters tackled the blaze, which took hold at about 1.30pm last Friday afternoon.

The fire was under control at about 3.30pm. No one was hurt and the cause of the incident is under investigation.

There was another scrap metal fire in Scrubs Lane in April, while the nearby Unigate factory building was destroyed by fire in January.
