Family were popping in and out all day at a grandmother’s 100th birthday celebration.

Close ones gathered around Honor Harris at her home in Stanhope Road, Greenford, when she reached the landmark age on Tuesday last week (January 21).

Mrs Harris, who has lived in Greenford for 80 years and used to do house work for a living, received lots of presents, including bouquets of flowers, cards from neighbours, a letter from the Queen and a telegram from Iain Duncan Smith, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions.

Immediate members of the family also put their cash together and bought the centenarian a tropical fish tank.

The 100-year-old, who has six children and 25-grandchildren, had a huge cake made for her by a family friend.

Eldest son, William Harris, 77, said: “All the family came round for congratulations. They were coming in and out because there are so many of them, she thought it was great.

“I don’t know how she stayed awake but she did all day. She enjoys the company when people come and talk and she had plenty of company that day.”

Mrs Harris’ husband, Lenord Harris, died about 40 years ago and she is now living with one of her sons.
