LITTLE Mix were star guests at the borough’s annual Kids in Care awards, celebrating the achievements of young people who have been adopted and fostered.

The chart-topping winners of The X Factor 2012 – former Harlington Community School pupil Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson and Jade Thirlwall – and Britain’s Got Talent 2012 finalist Ryan O’Shaughnessy, 20, presented awards and performed to the audience during the ceremony at Sofitel Hotel, at Heathrow, on Friday evening last week.

Foster carers, teachers, social workers, residential workers and parents had nominated the candidates they thought were deserving of special recognition, and more than 300 guests attended last week’s event to see rewards being given for the efforts shown by the most outstanding young people, who have overcome personal obstacles to give something back to the community, or have excelled in their chosen area of sport and education.

Ryan, who is about to embark on a national tour, performed his hit song First Kiss, and spent time with some of the winners.

“It’s been a real pleasure to come here and recognise the achievements of these young people,” he said. “Their stories are a real inspiration.”

The event was organised by a panel of former award winners, who also played an important part on the judging panel, and were responsible for all aspects of the ceremony.

This year’s winners were also given the chance to perform to the audience.
