A NOTORIOUS Hayes beggar who racially abused a parking attendant has been barred from the Town Centre and jailed.
David Grantham, 45, of Rowan Road, West Drayton, admitted to charges of indecent exposure and to racially abusing the traffic officer, breaching an ASBO issued to him in 2005.
He was sentenced to 17 weeks for each charge, to be served consecutively, and has been put on the sex offenders register for 7 years.
Grantham exposed himself to a young woman, following an verbal altercation with a boy at a bus stop in Coldharbour Lane on February 4.
Two weeks later on February 18, a community support officer found Grantham begging outside the KFC restaurant in East Avenue and he was subsequently moved on.
Grantham reacted by threatening to "smack" the officer, before turning his attentions to a passing parking attendant and calling him a "black ****". The attendant was said to be "extremely upset", and Grantham was arrested shortly after.
This offence was in breach of a previous ASBO issued in 2005, and this order has now been updated in light of these latest offences.
Grantham was also barred from a prescribed area in Hayes Town, stretching from Station Road up towards Botwell Green and East Avenue. He is also prohibited from loitering for more than ten minutes near any bank in the borough or having an open alcoholic drink in public. These conditions will apply until a further order is made.
Ward councillors and local Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) officers were in attendance for the verdict.
Councillor Janet Gardner, of the Botwell ward, said: "I am so pleased with the action the court have taken against this individual.
"His long running behaviour towards residents, young and old was totally unacceptable, anti-social in the extreme and just plain disgusting, and I hope that when he is released he NEVER comes back to Hayes.
"I would like to congratulate the Botwell SNT for all their hard work on getting this case to court."
Simon Mapes, of the Botwell SNT, said that previous attempts to get him on the straight and narrow had been fruitless.
"Since David was issued his first ASBO in September 2005, he has been unwilling to engage or accept assistance from the police and local authorities and continued to commit crime and act in an anti-social manner.
"The issuing of this new ASBO will greatly assist Hillingdon Police and the local authority to confront any further offences.
"More importantly, it will also allow the community of Hayes some respite."
