BRENTFORD FC has vowed it ‘will not rest’ until it knows how its fans fell victim to fraud before the weekend trip to Wembley.

The Griffin Park club was horrified when it heard that supporters had money illegally taken from their accounts after using its recommended partner website to buy tickets for the League One play-off final against Yeovil Town.

While big transactions, including one for £15,000, were stopped before they could go through, other smaller sums were successfully drawn.

The site is run by North Devon’s Ticket Zone where fans were directed via a link on the club’s website and via social networking posts.

Fraudsters, referred to by the club and Ticket Zone as a ‘man in the middle’, were able to record fans’ card details and quickly ran up a variety of illegal purchases.

Victims of the scam used the Beesotted message board to share their stories.

A selection includes:

@JoSmithBfc – so angry after having my card cloned after using Ticketzone. I go on holiday on monday and now have no money!!!

@TomW_505 – I got scammed by ticket zone too! Nearly spent £1,000 on the credit card!

@SupermanGavo – £440 worth of next clothing, £1,100 on dell computers and another £300 in game….. I love Ticketzone…… Not

A statement on Brentford’s website on Monday said: “An independent investigation of Ticket Zone’s systems is now underway and the police active fraud department have been informed and are also investigating.

“An investigation as serious as this will not, unfortunately, be resolved quickly. The club is in continual discussions with Ticket Zone and will update supporters when possible. Brentford FC will not rest until the details of what has happened have been made public."

Ticket Zone says it has opened all its files to the police and insists the fraud in question made it impossible for the customer or the company to know it was taking place.

Any supporter that believes they have a problem with a booking made via Ticket Zone can contact them on email at customerservices@ticketzone.co.uk, or by calling 08444 99 99 55 (option 3).
