Christmas came early for sick children at West Middlesex Hospital today as Brentford FC stars played Santa.

Captain Tony Craig and four teammates visited the Sunlight and Starlight children's wards at the hospital in Isleworth to deliver presents.

As well as handing out gifts the players spent time talking to the young patients and their families, and posing for photos with them.

Brentford captain Tony Craig said: "All the players were keen to do something for the kids who will not be able to spend Christmas at home with their loved ones. We are only too conscious of the support we receive from the local community as a whole, and this is a small way of giving something back."

Jonathan Douglas, Sam Saunders, Stuart Dallas and Nico Yennaris joined their captain to bring presents donated by players, staff and supporters at the Championship side.

Tracy Armstrong, paediatric modern matron at the hospital, said: "We were thrilled to welcome Brentford FC to our wards. It really lifted the children's spirits and it was lovely to see the smiles on their faces.

"Visits like this are really special and I would like to thank the club for giving up their time so generously and for the lovely donation of gifts."

The Bees won't want to give away any presents when their promotion push continues on Boxing Day at home to second-placed Ipswich.

Today's visit came as the club announced it had signed a development agreement with Willmott Dixon, bringing its new 20,000 seat stadium a step closer to reality.
