Brentford FC teamed up with Hounslow Council today (Thursday) to back a campaign aimed at stopping violence against women.

Councillor Sue Sampson, the cabinet member for communities, economic development, and domestic violence, dropped by the Jersey Road training ground to meet some of the players.

She has fought for many years to prevent violence after her sister was murdered by an estranged husband.

She said: “The Bees have once again shown they are on the ball about important issues such as the white ribbon campaign.

“They are not only riding high in the Championship, they are top of the league when it comes to being a progressive community based club.”

Mark Devlin, Brentford FC Chief Executive, said: “Brentford FC is proud to support the white ribbon campaign. We consider ourselves a part of the community in Hounslow and will always do what we can to support the people of the borough.

“Any work being done to eradicate violence will get our backing and it would be great if our supporters would make the white ribbon pledge as well.”

35 per cent of women and girls globally experience some form of physical and or sexual violence in their lifetime with up to seven in 10 women facing this abuse in some countries.

It is estimated that up to 30 million girls under the age of 15 remain at risk from female genital mutilation, and more than 130 million girls and women have undergone the procedure worldwide.
