A terrified Bedfont mum is sharing a bed with her young daughter after these huge cracks appeared in the walls around the tot's bed.

Terri Pearce, whose family have lived in the three-bedroom house since 1990, says small rifts started appearing soon after they moved in but have become much worse over the last few years.

Despite her housing association insisting the property is safe, she has moved her twoyear-old daughter Caitlin out of the room amid fears the ceiling could cave in.

"I'm too scared to let Caitlin sleep in there any more," said Ms Pearce, of Bowden Close. "She was waking up in the morning with dust and bits of ceiling on her face and I'm just terrified it will come down on top of her."

Ms Pearce, 27, is convinced the Grove Village property, which is owned by Places for People, is suffering from severe subsidence and is becoming increasingly unsafe.

But despite a string of complaints dating back to 2002 they have so far refused to tackle the problem.

Ms Pearce said: "People come out and they say it's subsidence, then the next lot come and say it isn't. Whatever the problem is the house is shifting and something needs to be done. I like living here and don't want to move but they can't just keep fobbing us off."

A spokesman for Places for People said: "We take the health and safety of our customers very seriously.

"As soon as this issue was reported by the customer we launched a thorough and independent investigation into the possible causes behind the problem.

"However, previous investigations and tests by structural engineers have failed to produce conclusive results.

"Therefore further investigation has been scheduled - as a matter of priority - which will include trial pits and CCTV in the drains. Once the problem has been diagnosed we will act appropriately to solve it."
