BEDFONT'S Southville Community Centre has benefitted from a £5,000 cash injection to help Hounslow's long-term unemployed.

The funding has come from SEGRO, one of Hounslow Council's business partners, and will enable the centre to run a weekly Job Club and provide sessions involving in-depth employment help for the long-term unemployed and parents returning to work.

Councillor Ruth Cadbury, Deputy Leader of Hounslow Council, said: "This is the continuation of our pledge to create new partnerships with local businesses to work with the council to deliver better services.

"In December 2010 we launched the Hounslow Economic Business Forum, which works with the large organisations in the borough to address a variety of business issues.

"SEGRO is an active member of the forum, and this donation will help those residents who are long-term unemployed to get back into work.

"On behalf of the staff at the Southville Community and Children’s Centre, I’d like to thank SEGRO and also look forward to developing further links with businesses in the local area for the benefit of people in our borough."

In addition to the funding, members of staff from SEGRO will work in partnership with the centre to get the project up and running and will assist with mentoring people, carrying out mock interviews and providing feedback for students.

The centre, which has nearly 37,000 visitors a year, has a varied programme of classes and activities designed to improve the physical, emotional, educational and economic aspects of life for residents in the borough.
