Eager beavers raised a smile and some cash for service men and women with a special Remembrance Day coffee morning, in aid of the Royal British Legion.

The 4th Ruislip Beaver Scouts invited the community to have tea, coffee and cake at their Scout HQ, in West End Road, Ruislip Gardens, on Saturday (November 8).

The youngsters and their leader Brunell Sweeney – better known as Badger to his beaver scouts – have raised hundreds of pounds for charity with previous coffee mornings, including one in May which raised around £200 for London’s Air Ambulance.

This time, in the lead up to Remembrance Day and to mark 100 years since the formation of the Ruislip, Eastcote and Northwood District Scouts, the group decided to raise funds for the RBL, which provides help and welfare to the serving and ex-service community and their families.

The first scout troop in the borough was created in Northwood just days after the outbreak of the First World War.

The coffee morning was another huge success, with £358.25p raised through sales which will be added to even more funds picked up through sales of poppies on the day, all going to the RBL.
