A BBC journalist, Labour MP and former clerk to the House of Lords will host a series of lectures to raise money for a soup kitchen.

Four monthly talks will support The Upper Room , based above St Saviour’s Church in Wendell Park.

The charity works with homeless and socially disadvantaged people offering free hot meals during the week as well as a driving school for former offenders and a jobs and training service for migrants.

Former clerk Sir Michael Pownall discusses the House of Lords to start off the monthly lectures on January 29.

On February 26, trustee of The Upper Room and adult learning officer at the National Gallery, Matthew Morgan, explores the life of German neoclassic painter Johann Zoffany and his links to Chiswick.

Torin Douglas, a BBC news correspondent for 24 years, asks difficult questions about the crisis at the corporation following the Jimmy Savile scandal, on March 26.

To end the series on April 30, Hammersmith MP Andy Slaughter, shadow justice minister and former secretary on the British-Palestine All-Party Parliamentary Group, talks on the future for war-torn Palestine.

All lectures take place at The Upper Room in Cobbold Road at 8pm.

Donations are welcome and wine can be purchased on the night.
