HIGH achievers at Barnhill Community High School have been praised by headteacher Robert Lobatto, as early indications suggest improved overall results.
Approximately two thirds of the grades achieved were at grades A*-C, with an overall pass rate of more than 90 per cent.
Among the students celebrating top grades and a place at university was Samiha Akhtar, 18, who will study pharmacy at King's College London after achieving an A* and two As in maths, chemistry and accounting.
Farhan Jivani, also 18, is to study medicine at the University of Slovakia after gaining two As and a B in maths, chemistry and biology.
The school maths department was toasting its own success on Thursday, with 50 per cent of its students getting at least a grade B.
Mr Lobatto said: "These students achieved outstanding A-level results and are now going on to prestigious courses at top universities.
"I would like to congratulate them, and thank their teachers who have worked so hard to help them fulfil their potential.
"I think its particularly important to recognise the achievements of young people at this time, especially following the negative and depressing images of the last few weeks."
