A BARMAID has organised a fundraising day at the Eastcote Arms in aid of her niece's seriously ill daughter.

Joan O'Connor said little Ella Murphy O'Connor, aged just nine months, has been ill since birth and her parents, Diane and Daniel, from Causeway in Ireland, need to pay for expensive round-the-clock care.

Ella has Schinzel-Gierdion syndrome, a rare, complex genetic disorder affecting infants that has no cure or treatment.

On Saturday, patrons at the pub in Eastcote Lane can take part in a raffle, an auction - with lots including gloves belonging to former boxer John Conteh - and a lucky dip game. Face painting will be on offer for children, who are encouraged to go in fancy dress.

Mrs O'Connor said: "Ella has been in hospital since she was born and she may have only three years to live.

"It costs £250,000 a year to keep her at home because they have to buy all the equipment to keep her alive, which is why we're trying to raise money."
