CAN I just clarify several key points regarding last week's story about the Trinity Bar and its supporters on Facebook.

The fact is the police have asked to review the terms of the licence because they say the bar, or its immediate surroundings, have been involved in the highest number of criminal incidents of any pub in Harrow over the last six months.

The volume of incidents, which include assault and theft, are described by senior police officers as being of "serious concern".

It is simply wrong, as one or two Facebook supporters have done, to depict this as a story about a killjoy council trying to clamp down on a popular live music venue.

The council's first duty is to deliver safer streets, so we clearly have to listen to police concerns, which in this case are patently serious ones.

The fact that there is a public consultation means that any interested parties can have their say over The Trinity.

Nobody is disputing the cultural merits of the venue and its attraction as a live venue.

What the licensing committee will do is look to balance that with the safety of people who use the venue.
