A former Deutsche Bank executive considered ‘among the finest minds’ in his field was found dead.

The body of William Broeksmit, 58, was found at a house in Evelyn Gardens, South Kensington, just after midday on Sunday by police who had been called following reports of a man found hanging.

Deutsche confirmed the death of its former executive, who retired in February 2013, in an internal email to staff on Monday by co-chief executives Anshu Jain and Jürgen Fitschen.

It said: “Bill worked at Deutsche Bank from 1996 to 2001 when he was instrumental as a founder of our investment bank. He returned to the bank in 2008, serving in various senior roles until his retirement in February 2013. He was considered by many of his peers to be among the finest minds in the fields of risk and capital management.

“We are deeply saddened by Bill’s death. He was a dear friend and colleague to many of us who benefitted from his intellect and wisdom. Our thoughts and condolences are with his wife and family at this time. We will remember him for his contributions to Deutsche Bank, thoughtful advice and personal friendship.”

An ambulance and London’s air ambulance also attended and Mr Broeksmit was pronounced dead at the scene. An inquest was opened on Wednesday morning and will continue later this year.

Police confirmed his death is being treated as non-suspicious.
