A SOUTHALL man has been banned from driving after police found him slumped over the steering wheel, with cans of alcohol at his feet.

Satvinder Meyon was stopped by officers in a car outside his home in Court Road, Southall, on February 24, Feltham Magistrates' Court heard last Thursday (June 27).

The 54-year-old father-of-three, who has two previous convictions for drink driving, was arrested and taken to Hounslow Police Station where he refused to take a breath test.

He admitted failing to provide a specimen for analysis and was banned from driving for three years.

Roy Pershad, prosecuting, told the court how police had found him slumped over the steering wheel, with the keys in the ignition and alcohol on the floor.

However, the counsel for the defence said Meyon was only drinking in the car because his mother, who owns the house, did not approve of him drinking inside.

She said he had returned from a meal out, where he had two cans of lager, and carried on drinking with friends in the car outside his home. Although he was clearly drunk when he arrested he had not been when he drove home earlier that night, she added.
