BRITISH Airways has announced that it plans to cut 1,200 jobs.

The job cuts come after a disastrous 12 months for the airline, which has been badly hit by the recession.

Workers are Heathrow Airport, many of whom live in Hillingdon, would be at risk of redundancy.

Chief executive Willie Walsh described it as 'the most difficult year in the history of the aviation industry.'

Talks are still ongoing about the possibility of a Christmas strike among staff.
