A successful TV producer and author was banned from driving and fined £720 for being over the limit while behind the wheel of an electric car.

Daisy Goodwin admitted drink driving her G-Wiz, a battery-operated vehicle with a top speed of 50mph, in Addison Road near her West Kensington home in October.

Goodwin – who is behind a string of TV hits including Jamie's Kitchen, How Clean is Your House, Property Ladder and Grand Designs – was slightly over the limit, with 88mg of blood alcohol compared to the 80mg legal maximum.

The 48-year-old mother of two, of Edith Road, appeared on Thursday at West London Magistrates' Court, where she was disqualified from driving for one year and ordered to pay the £720 fine, a £15 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

As well as her TV credits, Goodwin has compiled several popular poetry anthologies including The Nation's Favourite Love Poems and 101 Poems That Could Save Your Life, and this year published the novel My Last Duchess.
