A HAYES man who was high on a dangerous cocktail of alcohol and drugs has been found guilty of assaulting a man in the street and stealing his phone.

Edgar Turkson, 39, of Gainsborough Road, Hayes, was sentenced to 12 months in jail at Isleworth Crown Court on Friday.

He assaulted his victim, Kevin Gallagher, on February 8 in Acton, since when he has been in prison on remand.

Mr Gallagher was taken to hospital with cuts and bruises following the incident which was broken up when a member of the public came to his aid.

Turkson pleaded guilty to actual bodily harm and stealing Mr Gallagher's phone.

He already had 63 previous convictions including assault, burglary, escaping from custody, and intimidating witnesses.

Prosecutor Justine Davidge said that Turkson had tested positive for cocaine and other opiates, and had been drinking.

Judge Sam Katkhuda said: "You have a long record of convictions and here you are attacking somebody in the street at night and it was lucky a passer-by stopped a police car and put an end to it."
