Thieves appear to have blown a cash machine from the wall of Co Op in Isleworth.

A police cordon this afternoon surrounds the scene of the crime in South Street, where debris can be seen scattered across the pavement.

It is believed thieves struck in the early hours of this morning. Based on the destruction caused, it appears they have used explosives to blow it loose, as has been done by crooks elsewhere.

Julie Charlwood, who sent this photo of the aftermath, said the front of the store had not looked like this at midnight. She said it must have given people in the flats above a nasty shock.

Co Op remains closed this afternoon but an employee there said it was hoped the store would be able to reopen on Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning. He said the shop's interior had been badly damaged.

Police said two men were seen breaking into the store before making off in a silver car.
