A TEN-DAY large scale police operation in North Fulham has been hailed a major success.

Traffic officers and Hammersmith & Fulham Council's trading standards teams and community safety unit were also on hand with numerous arrests made.

The initiative began with officers focusing in the Fulham FC versus Tottenham Hotspur Premier League fixture at Craven Cottage on October 16 to target the misuse of blue badges issued to motorists with disabilities.

Two days later, car owners who had left valuables on show in their vehicles in the area were issued crime prevention advice before three vehicles were seized and two arrests made after 25 cars were stopped during an Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) operation.

Panic alarms and anti-pickpocketing chains were handed out at Virgin Active, in Lillie Road on October 19 before a Trading Standards sting saw one premises in North End Road warned for selling alcohol to a minor.

Plain clothes officers patrolled Gibbs Green Estate on October 21 with one man arrested after being caught with 18 rocks of crack cocaine.

A crime prevention day was held at Bishops Park on October 23 before a raid on an address in Oakley Walk saw police seize a gun and ammunition from the vacant property.

Inspector Simon Fowler, of Fulham North Safer Neighbourhoods Team, said: "The JAW contained a diverse range of activities from road safety to drug enforcement.

"As the Fulham North wards we wanted to show we were active across a broad range of activities, many of which are built on the joint work we were already doing with our partners."

Councillor Greg Smith, Hammersmith & Fulham council cabinet member for crime and street scene, said: "Initiatives like this show how committed we are to making the streets of Hammersmith and Fulham better.

"We have a zero-tolerance attitude to crime and will not rest until our streets are free from those who commit crime and anti-social behaviour."
