A 16-year-old from Paddington has been arrested after gunmen shot at a police car in Ladbroke Grove yesterday afternoon during a car chase.

Police have now released a picture of the Audi A6  that had been reported stolen from First Avenue in North Kensington and was driven by the three men who opened fire on police at 3.17pm yesterday.

After shooting at the officers in Herries Street through the back window, the suspects then drove into a dirt track behing a bus garage in Westbourne Grove and shot again, this time at close range, before crashing into a police car waiting at the end of the track. All three people inside then ran away, chased by police on foot.

Two suspects were caught and arrested soon after - one for attempted murder and one for possession of a firearm and aggravated taking without consent - and a gun was found. Several roads in the area were closed yesterday afternoon as police hunted the other suspect, who has now been caught.

Detective Superintendent Martin Huxley from the Flying Squad said: "This is an extremely serious incident, risking the lives of both the officers and members of the public who were in the area. I am appealing to anyone who has seen this vehicle since Sunday, December 14, when it was stolen from NW1 to contact police."

Two officers were taken to hospital as a result of the car crash but have now been discharged from hospital following treatment.

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
