ARMED police made a dramatic arrest foiling three men who were suspected of being on their way to commit a robbery.

Officers from Barnes Flying Squad swooped at Long Lane, Hillingdon, near the BP garage, and arrested the men at gunpoint.

The scenes took place at 12pm today at the busy junction near to Uxbridge Road.

The men were driving a stolen VW Passat, and officers recovered a sawn off shotgun from inside the vehicle as well as a handgun.

The operation was intelligence led, with the officers from the Flying Squad dedicated to tackling armed robberies.

An eyewitness who was driving past on her way to Uxbridge, said: "The police had the men on the floor and were making the arrests at gunpoint, it was really scary."
