HUNDREDS of children who need homes are being ignored by the wealthiest.

About 315 young people need fostering in Hounslow yet only three enquiries came from Chiswick last year, creating questions as to why the most affluent area in the borough is shunning fostering.

There were 245 enquiries in total, 71 came from Hounslow, 62 from Feltham and the remaining 109 enquiries came from smaller areas across Hounslow.

The council has launched Foster Care Fortnight (May 14-27) a drive to increase housing offers.

Councillor Lily Bath, cabinet member for children and families, said: “Foster carers provide a safe and welcoming home for children and young people who need it most. They come from all walks of life. Some are married, some single, some work full-time, others don’t. The one thing they all have in common is that they all made the decision to get in touch to find out more.”

She added the council offer excellent advice and support for foster carers and a generous allowance.

She added: “We always have children and young people who need fostering in the borough, so I strongly encourage anyone who thinks they could offer a safe and welcoming home to get in touch.”
