Apprentices at a housing group competed to create a day with a difference for visitors in a Lord Sugar style challenge for National Apprentice Week.
A total of 23 apprentices from Shepherds Bush Housing Group (SBHG) split into two teams and were each given £150 to create a special day for people visiting the group’s drop-in centres in St Margaret’s, Pimlico and its Church Street Nursery in St John’s Wood, in an Apprentice-style challenge .
One group in Pimlico cooked up a storm with hot meals, pancakes, pampering, magic and a spot of dancing while the others in Church Street treated visitors to a museum trip with tasty packed lunches and a sing-song.
National Apprentice Week, which ran from last Monday (3), is designed to celebrate apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on individuals, businesses and the economy.
Peter, a regular visitor at St Margaret’s drop-in centre, said: “It’s been marvellous to see so many people socialising and having a laugh. It’s what the centre is all about. I think the young people did extremely well and seeing them buzzing about and happy made it even more enjoyable for us. They have so much to offer.”The group rewarded the enthusiasm and creativity of their apprentices by celebrating with dinner in a restaurant and an awards ceremony.
Paul Doe, SBHG’s chief executive, added: “We invest £250,000 a year in on apprenticeships, providing training, qualifications and experience to support young people to develop their careers. Whether it’s in the office, on repair jobs, or building one of the 790 homes we’ll be co-building by 2015, we’re here to support apprentices.
“The Apprentice-style challenge provided an exciting opportunity for apprentices to build their skills, work as a team and do something really charming for our drop-in centre visitors.”
