A boss was so impressed by an apprentice that she offered her a permanent job.

June Martin, who runs The Little Art Room in Hanwell, was so impressed with Rebecca Bent's dedication and ambition that she nominated the 23-year-old for an Ealing Gazette Pride in Our People Award.

She said: “Rebecca has embraced the opportunity at the highest level and has worked extremely hard not only to complete her studies but to make a real contribution to the business. In her own time she has developed and delivered workshops for young people, and consistently offers positive and worthwhile suggestions on how we can improve the business."

Rebecca, from Ealing Common, has spent hours of her own time sorting toy and clothes donations, food boxes for Ealing Foodbank, books for schools and coordinating meetings for local charities and events.

Her boss added: "Our business is a community hub and a base for local organisations and charitable activities. She is inspirational and she represents why other employers should take the plunge. We hope to recruit another apprentice this year."

Rebecca started working at The Little Art Room in Boston Road a year ago. She said: “I really like children. I get down to their level. My main aim is not just to do the activities but get the quieter ones out of their shells. I was quite shocked to be nominated but I’m very pleased."

She also runs swimming lessons for children in the evening.
