POLICE are appealing for witnesses following a series of fires in a residential area in Hayes.

The incident affected a total of eight properties including flats in Barra Hall Road and Sycamore Avenue in Hayes on September 14 at about 2.30am. It lead to the evacuation of 20 people from a block of flats and four residents were taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation but later released.

Detective constable Lee Somerville said: "All fires are serious and could lead to serious consequences such as severe injuries and death. We are keen to find out how these fires started and would like to speak to anyone who may have any information, however relevant, that can assist police in this investigation."
