Does Jim work for BAA?

I recall Jim Pasqual stating 'no more letters from me on this (Heathrow debate) subject as there are more pressing issues on an international level' (There are two sides to Heathrow Debate, Chronicle, August 28).

BAA also made similar pledges over the years only to conveniently forget about them at a later date.

The recent letter in the Times regarding the high-speed rail link was endorsed by rail unions, as well as the ill-fated people of Sipson.

It's already more than a simple declaration made at the Conservative conference and a draft economic report into the scheme's feasibility has already been written.

I expect there will shortly be studies on the transport, environmental and social feasibilities to follow.

Jim is right, however, in that any large rail project takes time, eg the Channel tunnel and Crossrail.

But we built the tunnel and presently the worst Crossrail hurdles have been overcome.

So watch out Jim, there is a real alternative out there to the third runway, however long it takes.
