Plans to transform a vacant 1960s office block into a new hotel overlooking Shepherd's Bush Green are likely to be given the green light next week.

Atlantic House, part of the West 12 shopping centre, is in line to be converted into a 128-room Ibis hotel with a new lobby, restaurant and bar on the ground floor in Rockley Road.

The offices and shop units which make up the building have been empty for at least two years, and town planners hope the transformation of the site into a two or three-star hotel will contribute to the wider regeneration of the area.

More lifts, staircases and an extra floor will be added to the building, which will also be reclad to disguise the 60s brickwork.

The plans are due to go before Hammersmith and Fulham Council's planning committee on Wednesday next week, when officers are recommending them for approval.

Ibis is proposing a ban on coach party bookings, and is being asked to plant three new trees outside the main entrance in Rockley Road, and contribute £20,000 towards local training initiatives.

A council report said: "The improvements proposed to the public realm in association with the development are welcomed, and, overall, it is considered that this development would bring substantial benefits to the area.

"The development would provide additional accommodation for visitors to the borough and London generally, and these visitors would bring custom to many local businesses and services. As such the development would provide an opportunity to encourage the continued regeneration of Shepherd's Bush."

The Ibis scheme is the second big development of its kind on Shepherd's Bush Green, with permission already granted to turn the derelict 1920s Pavilion cinema into a 246-room, four-star hotel.

Gavin Waller, manager of the West 12 centre, said the hotel development, which follows the arrival of the giant Westfield mall across the green, came at a 'fantastically exciting time for West 12, and more importantly for Shepherd's Bush as an area'.

He said: "Over the last 12 to 18 months we've seen an increase in visitors to the area which has been great for for both shopping centres. We've got the Olympics around the corner, which is a fantastic opportunity for local businesses."
