PUPILS stepped back in time to remember a very brave girl who hid from Nazis during the war.

Students and teachers at the Green School in Isleworth welcomed the stepsister of Anne Frank, Eva Schloss, on Tuesday June 12.

Anne famously kept a diary during the Holocaust in Amsterdam, before dying in Bergen-Belsen in March 1945, a concentration camp where Jews and other minority groups were starved or gassed to death.

Elizabeth Cross, subject leader for religious studies, said: "June 12 is the anniversary of Anne Frank’s birthday. Here at the Green School we are commemorating this special day with a visit from a very inspirational and unique person, Anne Frank’s step sister."

Ms Cross added that Eva knew Anne as a child in Amsterdam and they met again in Auschwitz. When Eva and her mother miraculously survived the holocaust, her mother married Otto , Anne’s father.

Ms Schloss spoke to year-nine students about her experiences as well as signing copies of her book.
