If you’re an adult, do you find you’ve still got a soft spot for the sort of animal you owned as a child? I had two rabbits as a child and I’m still particularly fond of rabbits.

Unsurprisingly, therefore, I’ve just had a lovely morning at Hillingdon RSPCA with these beautiful rabbits who are looking for homes.

There’s Stefan, the chocolate brown one, he was brought to the RSPCA as a stray. He sat, good as gold, like a statue for this photo. Suzy, the white one, came from a breeder who had 300 rabbits. Her fur is unbelievably soft. And then, there are the four baby rabbits who were not wanted when they were born.

It’s a sad fact that many people get a rabbit and then, when the novelty wears off, they don’t want them anymore.

One of the saddest sights that RSPCA inspectors see is a rabbit, all alone, in a small hutch, isolated in a garden. Rabbits need to be kept in secure, spacious accommodation which allows them to exercise. They are social animals and normally prefer to be with another friendly rabbit, which – to prevent breeding - should be neutered.

While I was at the RSPCA, I also saw the three gorgeous guinea pigs who were featured five weeks ago. These two sisters and a baby son are still waiting patiently for a new home. If someone in your family is asking for a rabbit or a guinea pig, do remember these beautiful ones who are looking for homes. You can find out more from www.rspcahillingdonclinic.org.uk or phone 01895 833417. By the way, in case you’re thinking about it, it is not recommended that you keep a rabbit and a guinea pig together in the same accommodation.

There is good news about last week’s cat, Mr Woo, from Singapore. Thanks to his new owner he has, at last, found a permanent residency in the UK.

Hounslow Animal Welfare Society will be having a stall at the Eggstraviganza tomorrow (Saturday) from 10am-3pm. There will be children’s activities, discounts on pet foods and lots more. It takes place at Imberpark, Nutty Lane, Charlton Village, Shepperton TW17 ORQ.
