If you ever wondered if you can take a dog to work, have a think about Scrappy - known professionally as Mr Doo LLB. Unlike other employees in this legal firm, Scrappy’s LLB stands for Likes Lots of Bones.

Scrappy spends his days in a solicitor's office – DH Law in Hanwell.  With a comprehensive job description, he works hard.  His brief includes greeting clients, keeping a watchful eye on office security, making sure he’s in a prominent position for photographs and tidying up food scraps. He also models for the firm's Christmas card which, I understand, is one of the most popular cards with London barristers.  At night, work over, Scrappy stands down and goes home with the boss.

Scrappy is a rescued dog. He had two homes before his current owner, award-winning lawyer Rheian Davies homed him. He is a Jack Russell Terrier cross Springer Spaniel who was known to have behaviour problems when Rheian homed him but, in the right hands, he has blossomed.

With love and training, other dogs also have the potential to become such a star. The moment I met Arnie, I knew why Dogs Trust thought that, like Scrappy, Arnie would be an asset to an office.  When I met him, although he had a beautiful courtyard to explore and a box full of toys, he just wanted to be with his visitors.

Arnie is a charming, four year old, brindle and white Staffordshire Bull Terrier who was handed over to Dogs Trust by his previous owner as he was being left on his own for 12 hours a day.  He knows a variety of commands and likes having his tummy rubbed. If you are interested in homing Arnie and, possibly, but not necessarily, taking him to work so he too can become “an office dog”, phone Dogs Trust on 01895 453930 or have a look at www.dogstrust.org.uk/rehoming . Alternatively, go and see him at Dogs Trust, Harvil Road, Harefield UB9 6JW.

The final word goes to Rheian who says that having Scrappy around acts as "a proper stress-buster" not just for clients but also for staff.
