We’ve had the Oscars, the BAFTAs and now we have what all our canine friends are waiting for – the Dogs Trust Honours Awards.

These will be awarded in July but nominations need to be in by 1st April. They include the Hero Dog Award (for bravery) and the Dogged Devotion Award (for a dog who has given medical or emotional support). They also include awards for people (the Dog’s Best Friend Award) and a new category- The Pawfect Company Award - which aims to find the UK’s most dog friendly business. Do have a think and see if you know a company in our local area who welcomes dogs with open arms and would be worthy of nomination. More details are available from www.dogstrusthonours.co.uk All dogs are eligible for these Awards not just those who have been homed through Dogs Trust.

I’m not sure which category Kirk would be eligible for but, I’m sure he’d like to be nominated. Kirk is a five year old Jack Russell Terrier (cross) who has been waiting at Dogs Trust for a new home since November. He’s a lively boy who needs to be homed by someone who understands terriers.

Jack Russells have a reputation for being big dogs in a small body and the lovely Kirk is no exception. They need plenty of exercise and are generally bouncy and exuberant. Kirk needs an active, adult only home where there are no other dogs. If you think you may be able to offer Kirk the sort of home he needs, contact Dogs Trust on 01895 453930 or see more details at www.dogstrust.org.uk/rehoming . Alternatively go and see him at Dogs Trust, Harvil Road, Harefield UB9 6JW.

Finally, Dogs Trust are organising a Quiz Night at their Rehoming Centre in Harefield on Friday March 22 7.30pm for 8pm start. Teams of up to six people are invited to take part. There will be a prize for the winners and a prize for the best team name. There will also be snacks and hot drinks. Booking in advance is essential. To register, please email jennifer.rose@dogstrust.org.uk or phone 07709 173602. It costs £5 per head.
