ANGRY families have called for a councillor's resignation - accusing him of supporting plans for additional bus stops in their road without consulting them.

Residents have said Hillingdon Council member Keith Burrows, the cabinet member for planning and transportation, pushed the proposals despite most people living in the affected roads being strongly against them.

Bulldozers have already been brought in to remove grass verges in Mellow Lane, Hewens Road and Charville Lane in Hayes, where the new stops are planned.

The £90,000 scheme by Transport for London will extend the U7 bus route, which runs from Uxbridge bus station to Charville estate in Hayes.

The Gazette first reported the story in January, after residents objected to the plans because they said bus drivers were using existing stops as toilets, with one even saying she saw a driver having sex on an empty bus.

Jonathan Hayles, of Turner close, Hayes, said: "Councillor Burrows has said the majority of people were in favour of this when a public consultation was done, but this is simply not true - we weren't even consulted.

"We distributed leaflets in all the affected roads and residents were outraged because they had not been told about these plans.

"I think he should resign because we can't have a councillor making misleading and inaccurate statements."

Marie Wright, who also lives in Turner Close, said: "The point is he hasn't consulted us, he hasn't even attempted to listen to us. And I do think he should resign because he isn't representing people fairly."

Mr Burrows, denying any wrongdoing, said: "A few people are upset by the plan but there are many who are happy about it, many of them being the elderly who will no longer have to get two buses for doctors' appointments.

"There will be no shelters, only bus stops, so this will not attract vandalism.

"I feel I have represented people fairly and won't be standing down. In politics you sometimes have to make tough decisions."
