I AM sure that many people in this borough get up every morning to go to work to support themselves, their families and pay their bills.
After our mortgage the biggest bill we have is council tax, which is now a hefty £2,000 per year. How annoyed I was to find out that our Conservative council doled out nearly £1million of everyone's council tax in £50 handouts to people who already get their council tax rebated in full.
The Conservatives have the gall to call it 'cash back' but how can this be cash back when these people don't pay to begin with?
If you don't work and don't contribute to the local tax take, not only does the council give you everything for nothing but these Tories throw in an extra £50 of other people's money into the bargain as well.
I ask you, how can those councillors look decent, hardworking Ealing taxpayers in the eye and justify this misuse of our funds?
We all know their extravagance is aimed at buying votes for themselves in the looming elections but, I ask again, why are working families of all political persuasions having to fund such exploitative and blatantly self-promotional antics of one party - the Conservative party?
The Tories might be getting away with using Lord Ashcroft's millions for electioneering purposes but they should be mindful that, unlike him, the rest of us can't claim non-dom status for tax purposes and we want our money used sensibly on public services for everyone, NOT for the purpose of enhancing the re-election chances of one particular group of councillors.
