At last, six months after health secretary Jeremy Hunt made a promise to me in the House of Commons that he would order a full independent review of the closures of Charing Cross Hospital and Hammersmith A&E, it has started.
In the past year, 100,000 people in Hammersmith and Fulham and Ealing have signed petitions asking the government to keep our A&Es open, now the Save our Hospitals campaign needs your help again.
Write an email or letter to the Independent Review Panel (IRP) saying how much we need our local hospitals. You can give medical reasons like the care you and your family have received from Hammersmith and Charing Cross, explain how difficult it will be to travel to hospitals in other boroughs, or just tell your own story.
Send your evidence via Save Our Hospitals at email@example.com, 020 7389 8046, 6th Floor, 157-197 Buckingham Palace Road, London SW1W 9SP. But please send the campaign a copy. We intend to present all submissions and the thousands of Save our Hospitals postcards residents have been signing, direct to the health secretary.
The IRP will present its report to Jeremy Hunt on September 13, but please get your replies in as soon as possible as they start writing their report in mid-August. The final decision will be in October or November. Whatever the result we will fight on to stop the demolition of Charing Cross and A&E closures.
Residents and local businesses from Shepherd’s Bush Market and West Ken were in the high court this week fighting the Tory council’s plans to replace them with luxury high rises, just as they intend for Charing Cross. This is battle for the heart and soul of H&F.
