Two ambulance medics were taken to hospital after an alleged assault by a patient in Hayes this morning.

The crew were injured after being called to treat a person who was taken unwell in Marvell Avenue at about 9am.

Director of operations for London Ambulance Service, Jason Killens, said the male medic stepped in to help his female colleague, and sustained injuries to his face, chest, arms and legs.

He said: “I am absolutely appalled by yet another attack on one of my crews in the capital, who are only trying to help people in their time of need. This will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

“Medics are already under a great deal of pressure. It is completely unacceptable that they should also face the risk of assault when they go to assist members of the public.”

“There is at least one attack a day on ambulance crews in the city – which is completely unacceptable.

“On behalf of the service, I wish the crew a speedy recovery.

“I would like to thank our colleagues in the Metropolitan Police in Hillingdon who responded quickly to this incident and for keeping our crew safe.

“We will now be working with them to help secure a prosecution.”

One person has been arrested.
