A super-hoarder whose property was crammed with 150 tonnes of rubbish has been landed with the clean-up bill.

Hillingdon Council eventually swooped on the house in Hayes after the owner refused its demands to get rid of the mess himself, and removed stacks of pallets, piles of paint pots, several old fridges, gas cannisters, heaps of polystyrene and a couple of old bikes.

Workmen during the cleanup

Councillor Douglas Mills, cabinet member for community, commerce and regeneration at Hillingdon Council, said: “We stepped in because the sheer volume of rubbish at this property was affecting the local community by encouraging others to fly-tip nearby.”

The clean-up operation took a private contractor employed by the council three weeks to complete. The homeowner will foot the bill for the work.
